چکیده

We show that equilibria derived for certain multi-period nonatomic games (NGs) can be used by their large finite counterparts to achieve near-equilibrium performances. In these games, the evolution of a player’s state is influenced by his own action as well as other players’ states and actions. Also, both random state transitions and players’ random actions are driven by independently generated shocks. Therefore, we consider NG equilibria in the form of maps from state-shock pairs to actions. Their suitability in large finite games constitute our main transient results. These in turn form the basis for a link between NGs’ stationary equilibria (SEs) and stationary versions of large finite games. Our results can be applied to situations like dynamic price competition.

Analysis of Markovian Competitive Situations using Nonatomic Games—the Shock-driven Case and Its Dynamic Pricing Application

We show that equilibria derived for nonatomic games (NGs) can be used by large finite games to achieve near-equilibrium performances. Rather than single-period games, we deal with dynamic games in which the evolution of a player’s state is influenced by his own action as well as other players’ states and actions. We focus on the case where both random state transitions and random actions are dr...

A link between sequential semi-anonymous nonatomic games and their large finite counterparts

We show that obtainable equilibria of a multi-period nonatomic game can be used by players in its large finite counterparts to achieve near-equilibrium payoffs. Such equilibria in the form of random state-to-action rules are parsimonious in form and easy to execute, as they are both oblivious of past history and blind to other players’ present states. Our transient results can be extended to a ...

Connections between Finite- and Infinite-player Games: Normal- and Extended-form Analyses

We establish two links between finite-player games and their corresponding nonatomic games (NGs). In a normal-form game setting, we show that an NG’s equilibrium can generate near equilibrium payoffs for large finite games whose player types are sampled from the NG’s signature distribution. In an extended-form game setting involving individual player states that bridge players’ past actions wit...

Asymptotic interpretations for equilibria of nonatomic games

We show that a mixed equilibrium of a semi-anonymous nonatomic game can be used to generate pure-strategy profiles for finite games randomly generated from the type distribution of the nonatomic game. As the numbers of players involved in the finite games increase, the generated profiles will be asymptotically equilibrium. The converse of this result is also true, i.e., a mixed-strategy profile...

Nonadaptive Selfish Routing with Online Demands

We study the efficiency of selfish routing problems in which traffic demands are revealed online. We go beyond the common Nash equilibrium concept in which possibly all players reroute their flow and form a new equilibrium upon arrival of a new demand. In our model, demands arrive in n sequential games. In each game, the new demands form a Nash equilibrium and their routings remain unchanged af...
